Hawgs Begin Week Atop Standings

For the second consecutive week, Hags Hawgs finds itself alone at the top of the Iowa Farm League standings with 86.5 points, 4 1/2 ahead of the next closest competitor.

The Hawgs have been led by outfielder Adam Dunn, who somehow managed to steal two bases in the same afternoon last Friday. Teammate Ryan Freel has been predictably busy on the basepaths as well, stealing four bags last week.

On the mound, closer Solomon Torres has started the year perfectly, saving four games in four chances, while giving up only one hit.

Despite these highlights, the Hawgs captured first place with solid play from its entire roster, not from individual players. And, the Hawgs lead the league in only one category (saves).

"Our draft strategy is probably becoming apparent to the rest of the league now," said owner Brian Hagerman. "We want to avoid finishing dead last in any category, while competing hard in 3-4 areas. We also want to win using our entire roster rather than relying on the stats of two or three guys. So far, so good."

Injury update: No serious injuries. Reserve outfielder Josh Hamilton has a case of the flu and missed several pinch-hitting opportunities.

Players of the week: Adam Dunn and Matt Capps. Dunn stole two bags, blasted three home runs, and contributed six runs and RBIs to the mix. His OBP is .500. Capps, a relative unknown, picked up a win and three holds while yielding a paltry WHIP of 0.23.
